Ako means I or me in Tagalog. Because of my parents’ wishes for me to assimilate in America, it is one of the few Tagalog words I know by heart. The Waling-waling orchid is endemic to the Philippines and can be found at the highest mountain there, Mount Apo. Waling-waling symbolizes high aspiration and uniqueness. Ako (Waling-waling) is a functional lamp sculpture.
